Rare Bahr & Proschild #641. Original Antique Doll – Made in Germany c. The crossed-swords mark was first used in 1900, then changed to a different mark in 1919. So this doll was made BETWEEN those two dates. No Bahr & Proschild collection is complete without this very rare, original Bahr & Proschild #641 character toddler. She’s an early-1900s 15″ cabinet-size character toddler, marked “B&P-O (in crossed swords) 641 5 Germany. ” The 641 is a hard to find character mold number — and almost impossible to find in this 15″ size… Here’s your chance to own her! She has the most beautiful and sweet “Cupid’s Bow” mouth with the tongue and two upper teeth, and she is fabulously well mannered — she’ll get along fine in anyone’s collection. She is an exceptionally styled doll, with finely-painted bisque and superb coloring, and her composition body has its original paint. She has blue sleep eyes, blonde wavy/curly hair, and a spectacular outfit consisting of a pale aqua pinafore with embroidery details and a white smocked dress with a rosebud. She also has a matching straw hat, white socks, and button-strap white leather shoes. She is sure to please any doll collector. Beautiful antique condition — from a non-smoking environment. No issues found with the bisque after careful examination. Her composition ball-jointed body has its original paint, with average age to the surface and chipping near neck and joints. There is some foxing/staining at the top of the sleeves, as well as age foxing spots on the front of the dress. NO, that is not a crack in her eye, just a stray hair in the photo. IMPORTANT: Besides the noteworthy issues mentioned above, EXPECT any antique doll (bisque/composition/leather/china/wood) to ALSO have: (1) SIGNS OF AGE – for example: toned/crazed/chipped composition, minor wig pulls, loss of “hair” lashes on bisque heads, not-so-tight stringing, etc. (2) MINOR CONSERVATION WORK by previous owners/collectors – for example: reset eyes in most cases! , repairs to wig, repairs to clothing, touch-ups on composition/finish/paint, etc. Any MAJOR issues — hairline crack, total repaint, etc. – would be itemized above, but these normal age/conservation details are not.
