Original Antique Doll – Made in Germany c. Bisque Shoulder Head / Kid Leather Body – Stands Approx. 16.5″ Tall – Marked: “Made in Germany / HK in Horseshoe / Hch 3/0 Hx” This is a sweet-looking 17″ antique shoulder-head doll by Heinrich Handwerck in Germany. Her markings indicate that this is one of the fine bisque heads that was made for Handwerck by Ernst Heubach. She has stunning blue threaded paperweight eyes, and she’s on a kid leather body with cloth lower legs and feet, and with composition forearms and hands. She is wearing a splendid red velveteen outfit in a sort of Scarlett O’Hara style, with black lace & soutache trim and four tiny black faceted buttons (which are for show only; the top actually closes with snaps). She has a slip and bloomers underneath, and she has vintage black shoes. She has a very nice (replaced) blond mohair wig in a side-bun style. She’s in very nice condition, and at a good price. Beautiful antique condition — from a non-smoking environment. No issues found with the bisque after careful examination. The kid body has some repairs. IMPORTANT: Besides the noteworthy issues mentioned above, EXPECT any antique doll (bisque/composition/leather/china/wood) to ALSO have: (1) SIGNS OF AGE – for example: toned/crazed/chipped composition, minor wig pulls, loss of “hair” lashes on bisque heads, not-so-tight stringing, etc. (2) MINOR CONSERVATION WORK by previous owners/collectors – for example: reset eyes in most cases! , repairs to wig, repairs to clothing, touch-ups on composition/finish/paint, etc. Any MAJOR issues — hairline crack, total repaint, etc. – would be itemized above, but these normal age/conservation details are not.
