This is a unique and beautiful antique doll by Armand Marseille for Louis Wolf & Company. She’s ethereal, almost angelic, I love her softness. I’m guessing she was made in the late 1800s or early 1900s. Her underthings are so cute, beautifully made, and so complex, just like the real things. I don’t know how old the clothes are, but they do look antique. She has sleep eyes, a dimpled chin, and an open mouth with four round inset teeth. She has a lovely mohair wig, with little pink embroidered flowers. I’m not sure how old the wig is. I’m not 100% about the maker. I can’t find much info for her. But the previous owner said Louis Wolf, and the marks on her head do match up with Louis Wolf and Armand Marseille. Her head seems to be crack free, no chips or scrapes. She does have a brown chunk in her eyebrow, it appears to be paint. It looks original, maybe the painter got dust on her brush, or maybe it’s just a firing flaw, but I’m not sure. It’s hard to see. Her body shows the usual age on the leather, not too bad. Her composition lower legs and feet are in great shape, and so are her bisque arms. Her fingers look like they’ve been painted over, but they don’t look broken, maybe it was repaired and painted over? Her shoulders need some work, please see photos. It looks like someone has tried to save her shoulders many many times over the years. Won’t they be lovely when they’re repaired? She has a great body, kid leather, and all of her joints work fine, save for her shoulders, poor thing. Her marks are a little confusing. Nothing on her head, but her shoulders have 2015 – 3/0. There is more writing under the leather, but I just can’t make it out without damaging the leather. There are already a few stress marks from someone trying to look. She is from my own collection. I started collecting a few years ago and got in over my head! I still don’t know a lot about dolls, but everything above is to the best of my knowledge.
