She has a beautifully painted bisque shoulder head incised with the mold number “172-5″ and Germany. Small professional restoration — see condition details below. And, her original Kestner kid leather lady body is labeled J. Germany – 1/2 Cork Stuffed. She has her original wig, which had the wig cap replaced. The hair is beautifully styled and thick. Her dress is a unique color made of what appears to be antique silk damask fabric with a lovely lace-and-silk sash and all sorts of lace embellishments. To complete the outfit, she has a solid necklace (real gold) with a dangle pearl — very beautiful. Her underclothes are antique, and she is wearing old vintage leather shoes. She’s gorgeous, and she displays beautifully. NOTE: Photo props not included: DOLL STAND, FRAMED PICTURE. Beautiful antique condition — from a non-smoking environment. No rim cracks or wig pulls. The leather body is in extraordinary condition with no tears or holes. It seems to lose a grain or two of sawdust/cork here and there, but not from a tear; it appears to be escaping at the joints. Her right hand appears to have some type of professional touch-up, which I only detected with a black-light examination, since it is very well done. LIKEWISE — IMPORTANT — There is some sort of professional restoration internally at the base of her neck, left-hand side. Again, this is not readily apparent. I can see a plaster “patch” on the inside of her head in that area. But, on the outside, I see no evidence at all — not even with a black light. So, it’s possible that they just felt a need to add internal reinforcement. You would have to be the judge. None of these issues is noticeable, in my opinion. IMPORTANT: Besides the noteworthy issues mentioned above, EXPECT any antique doll (bisque/composition/leather/china/wood) to ALSO have: (1) SIGNS OF AGE – for example: toned/crazed/chipped composition, minor wig pulls, loss of “hair” lashes on bisque heads, not-so-tight stringing, etc. (2) MINOR CONSERVATION WORK by previous owners/collectors – for example: reset eyes in most cases! , repairs to wig, repairs to clothing, touch-ups on composition/finish/paint, etc. Any MAJOR issues — hairline crack, total repaint, etc. – would be itemized above, but these normal age/conservation details are not.
